The planter caper

Driving my car and there are several (about 5) tall planted plants in the middle of the road. Some almost look like small tree. I turn around to get them. But when I pull over, they have already been moved to the grass on the side of the road. I don’t remember if I moved them or somebody else did. So now I don’t know if I can take them or if they belong to the people in the house of the front yard they are now sitting in.
